Foreland is a research residency focussing on the hydrogen energy, infused with a lot of inputs from several stakeholder, thinkers and critics from the field. The goal of that program was to give room to artists, designer and cultural producers to dive in the topic of hydrogen, and think through it in other ways than the industry-oriented usual approach.
Positioned within this context, the challenge became how to contribute meaningfully to the loud industrial race as artists. The complexity of the topic, combined with its urgency, left little space for a calm approach. The process embraced doubt and sought to give it multiple voices. This exploration unfolded through words and voices, moving away from material-based or heavy physical structures, in order to preserve the fragility and softness of a suspended judgement.
When we sing, we start to feel kinship. Melody enters our bodies, words resonate through us. Accumulation of voices turns into a collective instrument for opening up to hesitation and reflection. It gives room to uncertainty, and we wonder : how can we create a place for doubt when the energy transition is such an urgent matter ?
