The project "Happy Human Archetype" is an absurd dive into the universe of stock images. It displays orchestrated routines of the western world, based on efficiency and perfection. The circular, clocked-inspired collage, gathers laughable representations of modern western lifestyle. An animated video (available on demand) goes through the different scenes included in the piece, giving them strong rhythm and enhancing the disturbing optimism they carry.
This project is the second step of an intensive research on time rationalisation and "time seams" in the contemporary western society. The first step consisted into the creation of an archive, gathering all the possible ways to measure time, time pressure, efficiency and productivity. In order to activate this archive, several options were first considered, such as choreography/movement based work. The Covid pandemic changed plans and available possibilities. Unexpectedly, stock image people turned into the main characters of the project. These anonymous puppets appeared to be the best representative of the "good life", bound up with notions of the accelerated everyday life that was central in the first step of the research. The focus of the work thus slightly shifted toward the unachievable, absurd everyday life promoted in these enacted images.
